Life in BSD City PDF Print E-mail

As a self-sustaining, modern and dynamic city, BSD City can meet all the needs of its residents. Read more about housing, business, education and recreation.

Housing
BSD City has a lot of very attractive housing areas, where all residents, from young professionals to families, can live in a relatively green environment. The houses range from standard to excellent, and there are designated green areas in all the housing complexes.
While the houses in longer established complexes are rather various and individual, the newer housing complexes are planned with strong attention to detail. So each of them, like The Green, De Latinos, etc., mirror a distinct topic in their design; in each of their row homes, villas and other jointly used facilities such as the club houses, swimming pools, gyms etc.

Business

In BSD City, business just blends in with the environment and there is still room for expansion.
Designated Business Areas are:

- Central Business District

This is where the German Centre Indonesia is located. The BSD’s Central Business District (CBD) is designated to provide an adequate location for companies seeking an alternative to Jakarta’s hectic and crowded business district, the Golden Triangle. The CBD covers 62ha, which is about 10% of BSD City’s total area. (more information given in section “The neighborhood of German Centre Indonesia”)

- Taman Tekno BSD

The BSD Techno Park is an Industry and Warehouse area that comprises 200 hectares. Its strongest assets are its modern infrastructure, security service and its location which is easily accessible.

It is designed for multipurpose usage, i.e. the buildings do not only serve as storage but also as offices, workshops and even showrooms. Quite a number of companies are already affiliated with BSD Techno Park. Over 300 mainly middle sized and large companies, including several German companies from various business fields, are already located there, with more coming soon.

Schools / Education

The development of institutional facilities such as universities, colleges and research centers is also very much in demand in BSD City. Currently there are more than 60 educational facilities. These include:

- Swiss German University
The Swiss German University has been based in the German Centre Indonesia since it was founded in 2000. It is a joint effort between German, Austrian, Swiss and Indonesian partners and offers S1 (Bachelor's Degree), S2 (Master's Degree) and PhD academic programs. The programs range from Engineering, Information Technology, and Business to Life Sciences, Law, and Social Sciences. The language of tuition is English and the university’s degrees are recognized in Indonesia and Europe. By the end of 2009 the university plans to move to their new Campus in BSD Education Township.

- DIS (Deutsche Internationale Schule)
The German International School is not far from the German Centre and within walking distance of several residential areas. It was established in 1957 in Bandung, moved to Central Jakarta in 1967, and re-located to BSD City in 1998.

The school offers comprehensive education from Kindergarden/Preschool, Primary School to High School, for German, Indonesian and international students. They can graduate with the German “Abitur” which qualifies them to enroll in German universities. DIS focuses on the European education tradition, on science and appreciation of intercultural diversity.

- In the near future Atmajaya Catholic University will build a campus in BSD City.

Health
Eka Hospital, located in CBD, is an international standard hospital. Further clinics and specialist practices all over BSD City and its surroundings provide health-care to the community.

Recreation

BSD City is already equipped with a variety of recreational facilities. From sports, to entertainment and shopping – every need can be served, especially since the Teraskota Entertainment Center will be completed in mid 2009. Furthermore most of the residential clusters have clubhouses with fitness studios, playgrounds for children and jogging tracks.

The selection of recreational facilities:

- Public Park
BSD City is committed to a greener and healthier environment and has allocated around 400 hectares of its total area to green spaces. In addition to green areas in housing clusters, BSD City has two public parks: the 2.5-hectare Taman Kota I park and the 9-hectare Taman Kota II, both of which serve as the city's lungs and as comfortable recreational and athletic sites, including jogging tracks, playgrounds and picnic areas.

- Damai Indah Golf:

To reach a world class golf course it takes you only 5 minutes by car from the German Centre Indonesia.

The BSD Course has been designed by Jack Nicklaus. As his maiden project in Indonesia he ensured this remarkable 6,454 meter, par 72 course incorporated many of his personal favorite features from some of the world’s top courses.
The award-winning course has been operating since the 1990s and the club currently has a membership total of over 1500. The BSD Course is indisputably one of the best the world has to offer.

Here a golfer’s dreams come true: wide stadium fairways, lush tropical landscaping, green rolling hills, which challenge golfers of every ability. The BSD Course presents many possible solutions as it does challenges, within a visually stunning setting, making the course fresh and exciting from every tee.
The 18 hole golf course is also equipped with a spacious driving range, an international standard restaurant as well as an Olympic size swimming pool, sauna and two tennis courts that are open to non-members.

- Ocean Park

The biggest water adventure park of its kind in South East Asia.

On an area of eight hectares, children as well as grown-ups can enjoy diverse pools and slides, including a “lazy river” and a wave pool.

- Shopping: There are several choices, but certainly something for everybody:

For those who prefer rather traditional markets, there is Pasar Modern BSD, a traditional market in a clean, modern building.

Along the main roads of BSD City, and in specific zones, e.g. Golden Boulevard, Malibu Square, the so-called ruko can be found. These buildings combine residential and commercial use. They offer all kinds of services, retail and eating places.

ITC BSD and Plaza BSD are well-established Shopping Centers in BSD City. The latest additions to BSD’s shopping amenities are BSD Junction (opened in 2007) which is connected to ITC BSD with a bridge, and Teraskota Entertainment Centre (to open in Mid-2009) which is located next to the German Centre Indonesia (see also “neighborhood of the German Centre Indonesia”).
